    everything but xp

i have an old 1.3 ghz it worked fine for a long while untill it started restarting
(as if some one was pushing the restart buttion) i have tried a lot of things
but after a while my parrents just got a new one so i kept trying to fix it
but since it had no hdd i used movx to test it and i discovered thet it ran fine on every operating system but xp (tested 95/98/dos/movx/movx2/knoppix/xp) it would even do that half way throught the install of xp

You say it had no hdd?

I assume you put one in?

What happens during the XP install? Does it freeze? Any error message? If it freezes when does it freeze? How many minutes?

it was bought with a 60 gb hdd in it , and ran for like 2 or 3 years then it started doing the restart thing (as if some one was pushing the restart buttion \ as stated earlyer) but when we got a new one the 60 was taken out of it so i ran it with no hdd trying to fix it (os runs off cd) when it didnt restart i put in an old 4 gb and installed windows during the install it happend near the end but when it was running the origanal 60 gb it would restart at difrent times some times it would run for days some times it would not even finish starting up

    Just to clarify you issue:

You are having problems installing XP onto a 4gb hard drive?

First off that is an extreemly small hard drive on which to try running XP.

That being said it should not stop XP from being installed.

It would be telling if we knew the exact point at which the install fails.

Also how does it fail? Just freeze? Error message? Does the same thing happen repeatedly?

Are you sure that the hard drive is OK? Are you sure that the XP CD is OK?

first thing off this is the 3 time iv sed this it reastarts just as if some one had pushed the restart buttion (crappy computer duznt have a restart buttion)
its not the cd or the hdd , the cd had been used to install xp pro on 4 computers , the hdd duzbnt has nothing to do with this becouse it did it on the 60 gb 2 and the 60 had xp home on it and i was install pro

it ran with the 60 for like 2 or 3 years and just all of the sudden started doing this

Sorry if I am not following what you are trying to do.

I don't understand what the 60gb restarting has to do with a Clean Install of XP rebooting.

You are Booting an XP CD as a Clean Install XP?

Are you saying that during the Install process the computer reboots (which it should):

Then what happens? Is it just a reboot loop?

Can you look at this setup link & point out the point at which this happens:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

(scroll down & view the screenshots on the lefthand menu)

You have used this CD to install XP on 4 computers? Were there 4 licenses?

Are you trying to install XP?

Are you booting the XP CD?

    Then what happens?

Please take some time to clarify what you are trying to do here.

If XP is already installed (running) & you cannot boot into it then try reinstalling it.

k it was bought runing xp home on a 60gb hdd after about 2 or 3 years it started to restart ar randome points as if a ghost walked over and pressed the reset buttion the got 2 anoying so we got a new one i put an old 4gb in it and installed xp pro on it and it did the same thing so it has to be a hardware problem but it only duz it whal runing xp

K (sorry for the confusion). So XP is installed but keeps restarting?

    Change this setting:
rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

That should show you an error page from which you will have to power off in order to reboot.

Please post the full error message.

    Also you can try:

Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a restart.
