Hey everyone I just recently bought a Logitech Quickcam Orbit web cam. I tried installing the software. Reboot as the instruction stated after installation. I log on and never got the prompt to plug in my web cam. I try running the program and I get an error saying to reinstall the software. So I reinstall still no go. I do this about 10 times. I tried pluging in the camera when it started to install the drivers for the came and didn't work. I also did this during the 1st installation. I even tried not pluging it in at the 3rd installation and no go. So I try installing it on my other comp and it works. I get a prompt when I log on to plug it in. I have Windows XP PRO SP2 on this comp and Windows XP SP1 on the other (not getting SP2 on the other messed up the comp before hardware doesnt like it for some reason). Now the cam is suppose to work on SP2 but yet it isn't and it works on a comp with SP1? It just doesn't make sense anyone have any ideas?

I would suggest manually uninstalling the software first:
Then I would try to just plug in your cam. I use a different Logitech Cam but it works fine without any Logitech software.Uninstall Programs Manually
Just because Windows XP has the Add/Remove Programs feature it doesn't mean your application will appear in the list. Furthermore, even if it does appear, it's no guarantee that the uninstall feature will work. When you run across one of these situations the items listed below will help in getting rid of the application. Be aware that these steps may not remove everything associated with the application and can impact other applications on the computer. Have a backup or restore point and use caution.
*
Find the directory for the application and delete all the files in the directory. Delete the directory.
*
Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*
Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*
To remove the application entry from Add/Remove Programs (if present) open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*
Some applications have Services attached to them. If this is the case, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es, locate and delete the service.
*
In Windows Explorer, navigate to the individual user settings and delete program references. Common places to check would be:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
If no entries were found in the previous step and the application launches automatically, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
and delete the entry.
To run it go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Camera Wizard
It should also run on any IM program that you have.
As you mentioned Logitech claims that this Cam is SP2 compatible.

Thanks for that info. It helped with my trouble shooting. I found an article in that link that told me how to do a clean boot and after about 3 or 4 tries I was able to get the camera up and running. Part of the problem was Ad-watch, Microsoft Spyware Beta 1, and McAfee were preventing it from installing properly.Originally Posted by jephree
