    Hi jephree,
Good to hear from you again!!
Message in a dialogue box that I cant expand to see rest of message.

I have already been all over aumha.orgcwithout success.

As to CD F:/ , I was using Musicmatch siftware to create audio CD.

P.S. When situation first developed.....cd rom drive would not respond, open or anything. i manually opened drive bay. I had to reboot (which is when I got the error in question) inorder to get the drive to close automatically again. It played CD audio afterthat on autoplay but I cannot select that drive in My Comupter without the error message.

Now getting error 51 in event viewer more consistnely...like once a day x last 3 days.

    Thanks

    see if this helps

"mimboot.exe" seems to be the offending startup program: I started
having this "shelliconhiddenwindow" problem after installing MMJB 10
too. I contacted MusicMatch tech support and they had me uninstall and
reinstall MMJB 10. That did not help, but in the process of doing
this, I happened to check the Windows task manager and found a process
running named "mim.exe" that was using 50% of my CPU time! This was on
a Dell 8300, 3GHz machine. This led me to finding the only MM startup
file I could find on my system called "mimboot.exe." I turned this off
in msconfig and the problem went away after restarting, but ONLY AS
LONG AS I DON'T RUN THE MMJB 10 PLAYER!! When I run the player,
mim.exe starts again and won't shut down unless I turn it off in Task
Manager or reboot the computer. I gave all this information to MM tech
support, but haven't heard anything back yet.
What is the source of error 51?

As per Microsoft: "This problem occurs if an Input/Output (I/O) operation to a hard disk is unsuccessful. When an I/O operation to a hard disk is unsuccessful."

Although this could indicate a hard drive problem I would first off get rid of MusicMatch.

You probably posted it before but what is the make of your hard drive?

Hard drive Specs (as best I can tell):
    ST340810A [Hard drive] (40.02 GB) -- drive 0, s/n 5FB1JDNK, rev 3.34, SMART Status: Healthy 512 Megabytes Installed Memory
c: (NTFS on drive 0) 35.83 GB 13.84 GB free
    d: (FAT32 on drive 0) 4.18 GB 587 MB free

My kids will kill me if I get rid of Musicmatch !

That is a Seagate drive. Diagnostic here:

    http://www.seagate.com/support/seato...toold_reg.html

I would test your drive although I doubt that that is the issue. (Let us know if you need help setting this up. You need to create a bootable floppy for this software.)

In order to troubleshoot the current problem I would suggest removing MusicMatch to test the difference. You can always reinstall it. At this point we need to pinpoint the trigger of your problems.

    "Shellhiddenwin...." is a MusicMatch issue.

    Disarm your children first!

Do you know how your BIOS boot menu is setup?

Is the floppy set to boot first?
