I have a Toshiba laptop running XP and for no apparent reason the CDROM stopped working , it says that it is working properly however there are no drivers installed I have went thru your list to no avail so how can I reinstall the CDROM with out losing everything that I have on the Laptop.

Did you install or uninstall any software? Particularly burning software?

What is the exact Toshiba model? Do you have any driver or setup disks from Toshiba?

Have you tried uninstalling the drive in the Device Manager then rebooting.
XP should re-detect it. In general XP will have the drivers it needs for optical drives.

Can't you download a driver from the Toshiba website and install that?
