I can only suggest physically searching for the source.

Possibly hard drive; case fans; video card fan; mobo speaker; etc.

You may need to open the case.

That is what I was thinking also, and I also finally got some one at dell(better luck during week days) at 3 am this morning, and they said take off the cover and check for loose wires, so, I figue I will check it over a day or two period and see, but I am figuring that it will not do it until the cover is back on LoL , because it really sounds like it may be coming from the A:/ drive.
Will post back, and hopefully it isn't booby trapped to void the warranty, I keep checking the option to recieve a copy of my dell interactions, and have only recieved 1 out of numerous, but they don't seem to be of any help anyways LoL Blessings

Well, I seem to find myself very busy right now, but I do know that it will stop on it's own, to which I found out the hard way because it shut down after a program clean, and when I got to it, there was a message saying that if you are trying to restore, or not click Ok and choose a time or click Ok to continue, and I clicked Ok, and it started that noise, and almost instanly, the windows advanced start-up screen came up, with several options to check (like to figure how to get to that at will-LoL), anyways, I just clicked normal boot, and it was fine; I was suprised to see a safe point option there as well; still looking, like I said, it doesn't do it every time, just the first time that it ran through it, I was curious what it would do without stopping it LoL; don't know if any of this helps to pin-point a suspect or not, just wanted to get something in here, while I have a little time to let you know that I am forever grateful to you all for your help in solving some of these mysteries. Blessings

I just finished another thread which brought out the point that high-pitched continuous alarms during operation almost always are a CPU heat warning.

Everest has a sensor section listed under Computer. Might be worth a look:

Goes to show you, that no matter how long you have a program, that I don't always think to use it for what it is there for LoL
Only been using everest for over a year now LoL
It's only showing 31c (88 degrees), and I don't get this noise when I am running, only on re-boot; the only other warning that I have gotten from the Cpu, is when a program is not responding (which happens alot, but is getting better) and I try to end it, the dreaded green light, which, I know to be a hundred percent Cpu warning, but it only lasts a few seconds or so, and this start-up thing seems to do it, even under normal operations
I am currently going through Dells' customer service to try and resolve this issue, because I did not get the verification that I asked for when the techs told me to go searching for loose wires, as I don't know if they might have warranty seals in there, the cover I know can be taken off, but do you think that I would be wise to go through the internals looking for loose wires, as I have definitely learned to trust the judgement of You and Your people here, and would like to mention again, that Dan certainly and expertly guided us thrugh our 98Se issues, and still is LoL
    Sincerest Blessings to You All
Will keep an eye on the temp. (thank you for reminding me that I have this program-LoL)

A new computer should not have such issues.
The purchaser of a new computer should not be subjected to such problems.
I would insist that Dell fix or replace it!

Yes, Indeed, I agree, and since they will not work with me, I went back and did some reading, and sent an E-mail to the company listed as the arbitrator for contractual issues, and will keep you posted on any progress, as I did purchase a warranty.
This thread started out as : search results won't close, and that issue seems to be fixed, as it has not came up lately, after doing the re-install you suggested, and for that, I am truly grateful.
You people do a wonderful job here.
Will keep posting on other things, but this noise thing; I am going after dell, because it seems that it may be a severe issue.
This issue here is resolved, and I will post a new thread for future issues, in case some one has a similar issue, it won't be hidden in another issue, unless they do a word search-LoL
    Sincerest Blessings

Some new information: Dan has me running mem test on my wifes' 98se, so I figured I would try it on here, and when it booted to the floppy, it started that squealing, and as the dots were popping up to show it loading, it kept getting louder, until it loaded....
I have really been after dell, even wrote to the arbitrators, and did not get a response from them either, where does one go when there is no where else to go????
Thought about a news program or some thing, anyways, I tried dell again on the phone, and this time they said they will send out a tech. (we shall see), if you can give me any thing to work with, if they come, I would greatly appreciate it, as the telephone tech seems to think, that it's the fan (don't think so myself, but could be wrong); and I can only hope to re-create the noise for them, and have tried with no luck, just does it when it feels like it LoL .......
Would be upset if they do come out and nothing happens, after two months of trying......
Have also located dells' suite of diagnostics, from the f-12 screen, and I am not finding any problems with the drives as of yet, and it lists the fan as n/a
Checked fan with the norton check-it diagnostics, and it just says Ok, and it is running; Ok, enough already LoL- guess I just need to know what questions to ask.....
    Blessings

Which fan are we talking about? Case fan? CPU fan? Graphics fan?

The floppy issue is interesting. Does this happen when you run any floppy? Or just when you boot any floppy?

I would basically tell the tech all your issues & insist on a flawless machine as any brand new product should be. Follow all the trouble-shooting & ask him/her what he/she is doing & why?
