My paging file is stuck at 0 and i can't change
-
my check disk doesn't work which leads to weird problems.
whenever i start up my pc, my check disk starts at the beginning (as usual). The check disk just freezes after a while. Also this prevents me from correctly restarting my computer which provents me form properly switching my paging file from 0 which always leads to out of memory errors. Please, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

"check disk starts at the beginning (as usual)"
Are you saying that check disk always starts? This is not usual.
Is this a new problem? Were you rebooting from a BSOD error?
Are you able to opt out? Is there like: "Press any key to stop chkdsk from running"?
Are you able to enter XP?
Also perhaps this will help: Do you have an XP CD?

i don't have an XP cd. My scan disk always starts, no matter what, it says press any key to skip, when i do, the errors i'm trying to correct by restarting (memory adjustment) don't change, when i don't skip it, it just freezes mid way and i have to turn off my cpu and start it up again with the same dilemma.

Unless you have sceduled chkdsk to run it should only run after a BSOD crash.
You can stop it with this edit:
Prevent Check Disk Upon Boot (Line 294)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
That does not explain why it freezes tho. Running chkdsk from the recovery console might work. Without an XP CD you can create the 6 floppy boot set & or use your OEM CD. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994
chkdsk is not going to change or save any settings.
If you are changing the page file & rebooting is not saving then I would try the edit to stop chkdsk from running & or resolve the situation via the recovery console & or your OEM disk.

i installed the disable check disk upon boot thing, but now it still does it and i can't cancel it.

Can you start in Safe Mode?
If yes try a System Restore to either a point prior to the change & or a point prior to this problem.
If you can't restore can you enter safe mode proper?
When did this all start? Chkdsk running/ freezing? Any idea what triggered it?
Also what is the make & model of the computer? What type of recovery disks do you have?

Re: your second post: are you able to enter XP?
When you said chkdsk was freezing I was under the impression that you could not boot into windows?

i can get into my computer with the cancel check disk press any key thing. i tried running the first of 6 boot disks i got from allbootdisks.com. but my cpu says :
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

Can you still get into windows?
If not can you get into safe mode?
Is your XP an OEM? Do you have the recovery disk?
