Can you still get into windows?
If not can you get into safe mode?
Have you tried System Restore?
It would help us to help if we had some idea of the overall issues.
Is this a new problem? chkdsk running? Were things OK before?
You were trying to change your page file size?
Were there any other issues?
What is the make & model of the computer?
Did you buy it with XP installed or did you install XP?
i entered the 6 disks and they appeared to work. but now it says insert cd labeled cd labeled windows xp professional cd-rom which i do not have.
what should i do?
Can you awnser these questions please?
At the end of the sixth disk you should get the option to press R for the recovery console.Originally Posted by jephree

system restore cannot get me a point before the problems
it is a laptop toshiba satellite model #: PS26aC-1kkk6
the problems really started a mont ago when i would log on and it would say my cpu has no paging file or the paging file is too small, whenever i would change it would say that i must restart for the changes to work, when i restart the check disk comes up and freezes.
xp was already installed when i bought it
You should be able to override the regedit to stop chkdsk with System Restore.
Since you can get into windows you can probably manually stop chkdsk from running. These are all the possible locations that could be launching chkdsk:

I cannot find that specific model at Toshiba:

But you should be able to contact them. They probably still have recovery CD's for that model or there maybe actually a recovery partition on the hard drive. You would need to find the exact manual or contact Toshiba for details.
the title is self explanatory, i switch, i restart the computer, and it's still at 0.
Did you clear the chkdsk problem?
Have you tried setting the setting to System Manage Size?
i fixed the chkdsk problem by going through regedit..........but now, i just can't change the paging file
