    PC Reboots without notice

undefinedundefinedI have windows XP installed on my PC, I've attempted to build the machine myself but seem to be having problems with the system just shutting down without giving any notice, this occurs at any time without any obvious pattern. Sometimes it is unable to run again until it has rebooted up to 3 or 4 times. I'm hoping this is some kind of software configuration problem somewhere and not a hardware conflict. Has anyone come accross this problem before?

    Hey, welcome to D-A-L

First right-click on My computer and hit properties then goto the Advanced Tab then hit setting son Startup & Recovery and take the check out of automatically restart. Now you should get an error message rather than just a reboot...let us know what happens.

    It says:
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Then goes on to question if new hardware or software have been installed correctlry, suggests windows updates or to disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

    Technical information:

    0x0000000A (0x4DFA310C, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8050D7FE)

    Beginning dump of physical memory

Make any sense to you? I have installed software since the pc was built, but to be honest I think this has occured from the beginning.

    Thanks
    James

    HI James,

Can you list the PC spec here, its most likely a hardware issue. If you have two sticks of RAM try running one on its own also.

I did have 2 sticks of RAM, tried taking 1 out but its done just the same.

    My system has:

    AMD Athlon XP2100+ 1.73mhz processor
ABIT Motherboard (not sure which one, it has no PS2 or serial ports)
    512mb RAM
A Dual display RADEON 9200 SE Graphics Card
    120gb Hard Drive
    CD RW Drive
    DVD Drive
    Internal 3.5" Floppy
    Internal 100mb Iomega Zip Drive

    Thanks
    James

    Hi,

OK first I would try disconnecting any hardware which is not critical, like the ZIP drive and run the machine without it plugged in/powered. Also check Abits site for any updates for your Motherboard. Post back how you get on.
