Things dont work in safe mode!
Hi all,
for some reason my computer wont boot windows properly, and i can only get into safe mode. i have the necessary discs to restore the factory settings, but there are some documents that i cant afford to lose. i have tried using usb devices to get them off, but no usb datasticks are recognised. i have tried writing them to cd, but it does not recognise a blank cd in the drive. i assume this is because safe mode only opens the basic systems, and these arent included in safe mode. if anyone has any ideas how to get the usb drive to recognise in safe mode that would be great.
alternativly, i have this restore disc, but no windows disc, as it was all preinstalled. if anyone knows how i could use this as a boot disc would that solve it? i only need to be able to get these documents off and then i can restore.
thanks for any suggestions

Did you try a System Restore from Safe Mode?
What is the make & model of the computer? The manual should point out the various recovery functions.
Otherwise putting the drive on another computer as a slave would work.
If this is the same laptop from your other thread an adapted can be used for this:

if that dosnt work, you could try a repair install (this replaces windows files/folders but doesnt delete any other files)
or, boot to windows xp cd, enter the recovery console by pressing "R" and type in "Fixboot" (without the quotes)
This may not work but its worth a try if system restore doesnt work
