    Password Help

Have a user who has forgotten her Windows log on password as well as the Admisistrator password. What are the options?

Although you have lost your Admin password, when you start windows does it start you as admin? if so you can go to "users" in the control panel and add a new user giving that new user full rights, then if you do need to input your admin password for some reason then all you have to do is log on using the "new admin user" that you added and all should work fine....other than that in XP if i remember right you can not regain lost passwords and the only way round it as far as i know (unless others know better) is a format and a fresh install.
being new here i hope i've not stepped out of line by offering a possible answer....

Sprocket has covered the bases here. Thanks Sprocket! Welcome to D-A-L! All help is appreciated!

JenniferH, assuming that you have an Admin account then you can create a new account for your user.

If this is a single user machine with only that one account then reinstalling XP would be in order.

Besides that, if you search Google, you might find some 3rd party softwares.

Couldn't she just reset the password jumper on the MB?

yes, but on the MB there is a jumper to reset passwords, is that for the login or the CMOS password?

yes, the reset jumper is for a cmos reset, but it does not reset passwords in cmos either, all it does is to set the factory defaults in the cmos, if it did reset passwords, then that would be a wast of time putting in passwords to protect your computer....

im my dell manual on the MB pic, its labeled "password jumper" and it says it resets passwords, oh well..... as jephree said, re-installing xp will clear the usernames and passwords
