I switched on my computer this morning and suddenly everything is not working. Here are the symptoms:

1. None of the shortcuts on my desktop work
2. My keyboard won't work (yes it's connected properly). Some letter keys will return symbols when hit.
3. The taskbar doesn't work.
4. Word and Excel are completely messed up. the command buttons for each will not respond or will return error values.

My computer was working fine when I last used it last night. I was able to run a virus scan, and my computer is supposedly clean. Unfortunately I built this computer myself so I don't have any support. Does anyone have any ideas?

More Info: Just tried System Restore, but that won't work either. After opening the initial system restore menu, the option 'restore my computer to an earlier time' is the default selection. However, the 'Next' button will not work, neither will the 'Cancel' button.

Nevermind. All fixed (sort of). I just plugged in a different keyboard and everything works fine. So apparently something in the other keyboard is jamming Windows.

The keyboard was causing all that!?!

Everything is OK now?

Just out of curiosity you might check the Event Viewer Start/Run/ eventvwr for errors.
