Windows Media Player 10 tries to open websites
When I try to open files that are on the internet from programs held on my desktop WMP seems to try to open the website. As an example I use the Driver Guide Toolkit to check for driver updates. The program should go directly to DriverGuide.com to check for updates, but instead of opening directly into that site WMP intercepts and tries to open the file instead. Quite frankly it is infuriating! I have even gone into WMP options and asked it NOT to open anything by default.
Can you think of a solution?
Thanks
Gareth

Check:
Control Panel | Folder Options | File Types

Sir you are a genius!! I checked everywhere I could think of on the web and no mention was made of this issue. When I went to Control Panel>Folder Options>File Types I discovered a file type "htm" (not "html") which was allocated to Windows Media Player. I changed it to my web browser and the problem was fixed.
Many many thanks for getting rid of my frustration!
