Is this an Acer computer? Or what is the make & model?

Have you installed any new software? Drivers? Updates?

Are you able to bypass this error & continue into windows?

It is PC Chips board m863g. The drivers used were the ones which came with the board. This is a SIS chip 741/963. Had promlems with installing epson scanner but ok now. some problems with norton AV.

insert the xp cd, close the box that comes up and click start run and type in "sfc/ scannow" without the quotes, this should fix the problem

or, failing that, search for a file on the cd called Keyhook.exe and copy it to C:\WINDOWS\System32\

keyhook.exe is a SiS file for hotkeys.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=Keyhook.exe

If reinstalling your SiS drivers/ firmware do not replace it you can stop that process from starting.

The scanner could have upset the graphics drivers & Norton can confuse things.

When installing anything it is advised to go off-line & turn Norton off.
