Tom please only post 1 message on a question or problem, posting more than 1 just confuses the issue. Please tell us exactly what you are typing and the exact error message you are receiving, thanks.

Command.com is the DOS version of CMD.EXE
In XP you basically want CMD.EXE
This should open from All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
& or Start/Run cmd or cmd.exe
Can you open & use CMD.EXE?
-
no i cant can you reinstall it cmd.exe doesnt work nothing like that works
Thanks

What happens when you try?
Any error messages?
You can try running sfc /scannow from Start/Run
You will need a full version XP CD in order to do this.
Is this your only problem?
The reason I ask is that it might be a symptom of a wider virus.
Can you open the Task Manager?
Can you run msconfig?
Can you run regedit?
-
no, it wont let use command prompt it loads but then when i come to type the command in it doesnt do anything

So nothing has changed over the past year?
Is this your only problem?
You might consider reinstalling XP:
How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

yes nothing has changed it just doesnt seem to want to accept any commands i type in for example the other day i type in (ipconfig) it doesnt do anything and then crashes, i can try and reinstall windows though i have windows server on my other hd will it affect that?
