I started to have trouble logging onto IE starting of last week. I have dial-up. So anyways, I type in the sceename, password, etc.... It dials the number and I can hear the modem working. Unfortunately for me it won't allow me to connect to any website or use any services (ex: AIM). Instead the website page says that its unable to connect and to check my network settings, encryption, and so on.

A pop-up also comes up that there is a RUNDLL error with "asSMSEXT.dll" and somewhere at the end of the error line in the pop-up I it says something like UMonitor.

I found the .dll file in the system32 folder, its a fairly new file so i figured I'd try to delete it thinking nothin bad would happen. Unfortunately another program is already using it so it won't allow me to.

If I pick up the phone I can hear the modem still running. anyone have any ideas of how to fix this?

Can you post the exact error message you get?
