Programs closing down after an hour

    Hi,

ive recently installed a nvidia 6600Gt card and since then my programs closes themselves down without any error messages.

Also im having a problem with etomi pro, when its running it causes java.exe to use between 60-95% of CPU.

    Thanks

Did you uninstall the old video drivers before installing the new?

Are you sure that the card is compatible with the motherboard?

What exactly happens when a program shuts down? Does the computer continue to run?

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.

I only have one display adapter installed which is this one.
I do however have legacyvideo capture devices installed under sound video and game controllers.
Yes i am sure the card is compatible with the motherboard.
Programs just close themselves and computer keeps running as normal. Not all the programs shut down though just seems to be ones with high memory usage although i've got 1gb RAM.

    Cheers

The last 2 there are nVidea issues. As an initial test I would try the latest drivers.

    Found here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.72.html

Download these drivers to your desktop.
Reboot into Safe Mode & from the Device Manager remove your current drivers.
Also remove any nVidea programs from Add / Remove programs.
Reboot normally & install the new drivers & then reinstall any nVidea programs that you removed.

    Driver Installation Hints

"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.

Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

Do you have an on-board graphics chip?

Under Device Manager is there more than one Display Adadpter?
If so it should be disabled.

My next step would be to update the chipset drivers. To do so you would need to know the make & model of the motherboard.
This scan will show it under Main Circuit Board

no that is the only one in the display adapters.

That scan told me this under main circuit board
    Board: K7S41 1.0
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. P1.70 08/20/2004

That board does have on-board graphics & a VGA port.

I wonder why it isn't showing under the Device Manager

Did you ever disable or make any change to the on-board graphics in the BIOS?

Also: sorry if it's a dumb question but your monitor is plugged into the nVidea card & not the on-board port?

Asrock does have a SiS AGP PCI-to-PCI Bridge Driver listed here:

    http://www.asrockamerica.com/Products/K7S41.htm
    http://www.asrock.com/support/Download/dl_k7s41.htm

    You have the latest BIOS.
