I have tried all I can think of but I can't get the help service or the windows security center service to operate.
The help service is started but it just won't run.
The security center tries to start then throws out an error 1053 the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Any help appreciated!!![]()
Did thid just start to happen? Any previous problems? Any new software?
Do you get the 1053 error from Help & Support also? There is a known Help & Support issue quoted below.
Do you have the latest windows updates including .NET framework 1.1 & updates?

FixWinXPHelp.exe - Repairs Windows® XP Help and Support after running Easy
Cleaner
Visual Basic 6 EXE version 6/02/2002
© Doug Knox
This small VB 6 utility will restore the associations for Windows® XP Help
and Support that Easy Cleaner removes. Other registry "cleaners" can cause
the same problem.
NOTE: This utility will not correct issues that are accompanied by an error
message. The indications for the use of this script are that Help and
Support will not open, there is no error message, just a brief change of the
mouse cursor to an hourglass.
To use: Download the FixWinXPHelp.zip file and save it to your hard drive.
Double-click the FixWinXPHelp.zip file and extract FixWinXPHelp.exe to your
hard disk. To run the EXE just double click it, there is no installer. You
will be notified whether the program can fix your Help and Support issue, or
not.
Operating Systems: Windows XP only. Requires VB 6 Runtime Libraries,
included in Windows® XP.
The help centre issue has been fixed by using the dougknox fix thank you.
I have all the latest updates but still cannot get the security centre to function!!
Did it ever function properly?
Are you sure that you have .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885055/
This would be listed under Add/Remove Programs as: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 etc.
Yes it did work and yes I do have that program in my add/remove section and i re installed it as well even though i got the message already installed.
Problem solved by re installing Service Pack 2.
Thanks for the heads up re storing the help service.
keep up the good work dude!!
Glad you got it going & thanks for the thanks!![]()
