Are you speaking of the startup & system sounds? Do you have any sound?

Check your settings under: Control Panel | Sounds & Audio Devices | Sounds

Do you have a sound scheme set?

I don't understan what you guys mean you never heard of it. OK I have a phone numder 000 000 0000 ok? then I have a distictive ring number 111 111 1111 ok so if someone call me to talk to me they call 000 000 0000 and the phone rings long rings and if someone sends me a fax or even calls me on this number 111 111 1111 i will hear short rings and if my computer is hook up to my modem my computer should know what to answer and what not no so if I have distictive ring turn on with windows 98 it can detect it as line 111 111 1111 where i would have a fax software hooked up. however windows XP will not allow distictive ring to me modified. So my question was way is that so. If you guys know what i'm talking about thats cool if you don't well then i'll figure it out sometime.
    Thanks
