New Sata Drive Installed As Main Drive

Installed a new sata drive today and copied over my existing smaller drive to the larger one using ghost 9.

No problems all running well but I noticed that system restore no longer recognises the new "C" sata drive.

I have 3 drives the other 2 are Ide and these are recognised and monitored.

Is this normal that a sata drive is not recognised by system restore

    My system details are

    Windoze Xp Pro Sp2
    Amd 64 Athlon 3200+
    MSI K8TNeo MotherBoard
    1Gb Pc3200 Ram 400Mhz Clock Speed
128mb Ati Radeon 9000 Pro Video Card
250Gb Seagate 7200 8mb Cache Sata Main drive
    120Gb Seagate 7200 Slave Drive
    40Gb Quantam Fireball Slave Drive
    550 Watt PSU
El Cheapo Case What the hey it does the trick!!

I am using the latest bios from Msi (MS-6702 (K8T Neo-FIS2R)

Current Ver. 2.20 Online Ver. 2.20).

    Any help appreciated.

When you open the System Restore tab via My Computer | Properties you do not see the C: drive?

Have you rebooted since the ghosting?

    Some tips here:

Also did you install the SATA drivers prior to ghosting or during the XP install?

Only the non sata d and e drives are visible in system restore.

Yes I installed all applicable drivers before copying over the c:\ drive.

    Any help appreciated.

Is the drive detected under Disk Management & or My Computer?

Open a command prompt window. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD.
    2. Press ENTER, and then type Net Start at the command prompt to make sure that the System Restore service is up and is running for C:.

If not then: Admin Tools | Services | System Restore

    Also perhaps:
Try stopping System Restore | rebooting | then starting System Restore

When I disconnect the other ide drives then system restore recognises the sata drive as c:\

When the other 2 are connected system restore recognises the d drive as the system drive.

This was the one that originally held the operating system and was the former c:\ drive.

    Does this make sense??!!

In most cases changing a hard drive & or motherboard requires a reinstall (at least repair) of XP.

My current guess in your situation is that the old install is still on the old drive.

I would format the old partition where XP was ghosted from.

    This should remove residuals.

I have done this before a year or so ago and I seem to recall that I did format the smaller drive then and did not have this issue.

I am currently transferring the files to my c drive and will then format the d drive and see what happens.

Formatting from within windows should do the trick??

    I would think so.

    Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reformatting and disabling and re starting System Restore it now recognises all three drives with it acknowledging that the c:\ sata drive is the system drive.

Thanks for all your help dude!!
