Pointer freezes when disconnecting internet
XP with SP2 installed. Dial up internet.
Everytime I try to disconnect the internet connection only (not shut down the computer), the pointer on the screen freezes. ctrl+alt+del does not work and I am forced to use reset button to shut down computer and restart again. As long as I am not connected to the internet, I have no problems at all. Any ideas

How are you disconnecting?
Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also view your Error Log via:
[1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log

Thanks for your response. I disconnect by right clicking on the icon of my ISP. The events viewer does not show any x errors either. However I have noticed that my problem is intermittent and I am trying to figure out by trial and error why the pointer freezes only sometimes. I have uninstalled zone alarm firewall as well as AVG anti virus in case they are causing the problem.
I'll get back to you again. Thanks once again.

So just to clarify: the problem is not disconnecting from I.E. (or a browser) but in disconnecting from your ISP?
