Heya!
I m running on a Win XP operating System. One night i kept my computer on. In the morning the computer screen was black.
The monitor was on
The mouse pointer was visible
Everything is working fine[Monitor, mouse, power etc] - trust me on this
Then out of curiousity, i restarted the system
The system started, the after all the Windows XP startup screen, it was time for the login screen [I have 3 accounts]
Just when the login screen suppose to come up, a blue screen [like memory dump ones] poped up and said, to remove the newly installed hard drives or restart or check for viruses or run check disk.
However, the hard drive seems fine and i can't do anything else like chkdsk since even when i startup in MSDOS mode, the blue screen pops up.
It also contains one line of hex error code. Any help please? i can't live without my comp...if you are one of those...you will feel my pain too. Please!!! Thank you for ya time!
- I can't even install win xp...the blue screen pops up b4 everything!
What is the hex code error?
Are you saying F8 (safe mode options) will not work?
Do you have a full version XP CD? If so you can try chkdsk from the Recovery Console.

If your XP is OEM then are you familiar the Recovery Options of your manufacturer?

What exactly does the blue screen say?
Are you sure that your CD is set in the BIOS to boot before the hard drive?
Thank you for the quick reply and care!!
What is the hex code error?
I m using someone else's com away from home. I will write it down and reply tomorrow
Are you saying F8 (safe mode options) will not work?
F8, when pressed prepares the system in safe mode but whenever the windows startup screen (with all the icons like my comp, recycle bin) is suppose to show up with 'safe mode' written in all 4 corners, the screen goes blue.

I do. But how do i boot from CD? although i ll try this way tonight!

Nope!

No idea..how do you get to know this?
This depends on the machine. What is the make & model? Are you sure that your CD is set in the BIOS to boot before the hard drive?
No idea..how do you get to know this?
What happens when you power on? Do you get a Logo screen?
Is there any info on that screen such as:
Esc=summary F2=Setup etc.
Most either use F2 or the Delete key to enter the BIOS setup.
Then check Boot Menu
Have the CD Boot prior to the hard drive.
Ok here you go!
I booted from CD and reinstalled windows twice last night! Both times, windows got installed.
When it restarted last time (when the installation completed), when its suppose to show up the login screen, the stupid blue window pops up.
Also i tried the recovery console. It seems the console starts up, then the blue screen pops up!
All the other way of Safe Mode or MSDOS modes, shows the same blue window:
This is what the blue window shows [exact stuff]

A problem has been detected and windows been shut down 2 prevent damage 2 ur computer.
If this is first time, then restart the comp.
If this appears again, then check for viruses. Remove any newly installed HDs or HD controllers. Check your HD to make sure its properly configured and terminated. Run Chkdsk then restart.

I can't do CHKDSK since i can't fully start in MSDOS mode either! It seems to me like a virus chaged the so called HD controllers. However any pro help is appriciated.
Here are 2 general pages; the second of which is almost identical in error although does not match your circumstances.
I have seen similar boot issues that were resolved by clearing the CMOS & or flashing the BIOS. Do you know your motherboard make & model to find this info?
Also I would run the manufacturers' diagnostic on the hard drive. Here is a list of the majors: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Also is your drive setup as a SATA/RAID?

Thank you for the quick replies and your dedication to keep ur forum members updated!
Now i believe that its a driver error. It could also be spywares.
Whenever i install windows xp, @ some point, i get a message that says that my Nvidia card isnt compatible with windows xp and asks 'do you want to continue setup?' i always press yes.
I m gonna do a parallel installation of windows xp after trying to install it, while denying those compatible messages.
My system is Pen 4 - 1.8Ghz
P4X533 system i belive (i ll tell this tomo more exactly)
Maxtor 80gb harddrive
You also mentioned resetting bios and stuff. How do i do that?
I don't know wats sata or raid?
PowerMax is Maxtor's diagnostic. It is worth running for the quick test as well as just a good boot device:
http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/ma...&downloadID=22
Was XP working OK with this nVidea card in the past?
Do you have an on-board VGA device as well? A plug for the monitor on the motherboard?
We really need to know the make & model of the computer & or motherboard to know the exact BIOS / CMOS configurations.
P4X533 is the chipset:
http://www.google.com/search?q=P4X533
There are a few manufacturers' using it; such as:
http://www.ecsusa.com/products/p4x533-a.html
If you can ID the exact board we can look up a BIOS upgrade as well as instructions on clearing the CMOS. This is a jumper on the board that will simply reset all the board defaults.
SATA / RAID requires special XP drivers. If your drives are standard ATA then my question was moot.
RAID: An acronym for Redundant Array of Independent Disks, a family of techniques to manage multiple disks that provide high capacity storage, data availability, and performance characteristics to host environments.
Also called: Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, Redundant Array of Independent Disks, and Disk Arrays
SATA: A standard for connecting hard drives into computer systems, based on serial signaling technology.
Also called: SATA and Serial Advanced Technology Attachment
I will run powermax
Win xp was working fine with the nvida for 3 years
My comp is p4s533 (asus model)
What do u mean by make and model?
I think my drivers are standard
Now that the windows driver issues cleared its the virus or something that did something to the bios is the problem.
My hard drive is working fine: This is how i found it.
While installing windows last night again which was a failure, i got a message telling me to notify a path to a file. When i browsed it, i could see all my files, my documents and windows directory and was able to browse them.

A BIOS boot block corruption is certainly possible & would cause issues similar to yours.
The ASUS BIOS are here: (a standard version & a beta)(each with or without LAN versions)
