I can't send an email from scratch unless the address is in my contacts list. It just says :address unknown, name unknown: How can I alter this please?

I think you should contact your ISP. It could be that they have you set up improperly.

It's nothing to do with your ISP, as your ISP's SMTP server wont know wether the address way entered manually or generated from you contact book.

I know this sounds obvious, but are you entering the correct and full mail address?? Make sure you try multiple addresses to ensure that its not a case of a deal mail-addy
