    Computer Shuts Off By Itself

an Someone Tell Me Why My Computer Just Shuts Down For No Reason? I Have An E-machines With Windows Xp. The Computer Shuts Off With No Warning Or Error Message And Doesn't Reboot. The Orange Light Comes On On The Tower Like Its In Sleep Or Hibernation Mode, But Doesn't Come Back On Upon Moving The Mouse. I Have To Push And Hold The Power Button Till It Totally Shuts Off, Then Turn It Back On. Sometimes It Immediately Shuts Right Off Again, Sometimes After 5 Tries Or More It Will Run Awhile, Then Shuts Off Again. I've Taken It To 2 Repair Shops And It Doesn't Do It When They Have It??!! Please Help!! Thanks!

Have you tried a different outlet or power setup in your home?

Are you getting proper air flow around the tower?

Were they running it with the case open?

Could quite possibly be a heat issue.

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.

Also view your Error Log via:
    [1] Start Menu
    [2] Help and Support
    [3] Pick a Task
    [4] Tools
    [5] Advanced System Information
    [6] View the Error Log

    Also try running Check Disk:
    start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.

Definately sounds like a Heat issue . When this occurs do you hear the Fans Still running in the tower??? If not could be the power supply going out (not a Strong point with your Brand of computer ) If still under Warranty you might get that adressed or have the folks you took it to put another in to try .However it Might also be a Hardware, Memory, or Program that is causing this . I see you are using win. XP and you might just try this also
    1) Right-click once on MY COMPUTER and left-click on PROPERTIES.

    2) Click on the ADVANCED Tab.

    3) Click on the "Startup and Recovery" SETTINGS button.

    4) Uncheck the box in front of "Automatically restart". Click OK.

    5) Click the ERROR REPORTING button.

    6) Dot the circle in front of "Disable error reporting" and uncheck the box below it in front of "But notify me when critical errors occur". Click OK.

    7) Click APPLY then OK and you will be asked to restart your computer more than likely which you will want to do.

Now instead of rebooting, you computer will go to a blue and white screen if the error occurs again and it will tell you what the error is which we can lookup and hopefully find a fix for.
    Good luck !
