help please
i am trying to install xp home on a exselsior 40 g hdd i format the disk it installs the set up files reboots and starts all over again and again and again it gets no further than rebooting after set files then it just starts again!
any advice would be appreciated
i have quick formatted and formatted and used fdisk to format
ihave been at it for 5 hours help please

There is no reason for a manual format.
XP will do its' own formatting.
A reboot is normal after the setup ... then it should carry on ...

Also make sure that you let the setup reboot:
Sounds like you are hitting a keyboard key when you see
the message to "press any key to boot from CD". Don't do this.
When setup reboots the first time, do not touch your keyboard
and your computer will automatically boot from the CD and
continue installation.
Also if this isn't relevant do you get any errors & or indication of files not loading etc.?

hi jephree thanks for responding
idont touch anything on reboot it just starts from the begining again time and time again it loads the setup files automatically reboots after 15 seconds and starts again this is abona fide store bought full installation windows xp home

Looking at this page can you tell if you get the setup complete?

Do you ever see step 15?
When you see the "Press any Key to Reboot" do not Press any Key.
If CD boots anyway, remove CD and reboot.
-
yes i get to step 15 i do not "press any key to reboot" but it just starts all over again if i remove the disk and reboot it asks me for bootable media it wont boot from the hard drive at all even if i set it to boot from the hard drive in bios
-
Is the hard drive seen in the BIOS?
Is it set in the boot menu?
-
yes it is seen in the bios and it is set in the boot menu
-
Is this a new drive? Did it ever work?
I cannot find any matches for an exselsior hdd or even an excelsior hard drive.
Most drives have diagnostic utilities.
Are you sure that that is the make of this drive?
Do you have another that you can try?
-
this is a hdd i took from the pc i am using now and it worked fine my mistake it is actually excelstor

Excelstor:

Not much help there
& not much precedent for this issue unfortunatly.
One thing you could try is using the 6 floppy xp setup found here:
Windows XP 6 Disk Setup Set
XP Home/Pro Original/SP1/SP2
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
Has this XP disk ever been used before?
