i have removed the disk from the pc and installed it back in this pc i am currently running the scan disk facility

i have run the checkdisk in xp and the disk seems to be fine i can also see the windows folder on it do you think it could be something in bios i am over looking

Sorry I am not exactly following what you are doing.

You put the Excelstor drive on another computer?

By moving the disk do you mean moving the drive?

If your BIOS is set to boot the hard drive it should be all set.

The hard drive should be the Master on the Primary IDE is all.

Are the jumpers set to Master?

& also: is this the first time that you have used this XP CD?

i have taken the drive and put it in another pc i have used the checkdisk facility in windows and the drive is fine i can even view the windows files that setup has installed on it i then returned it to the other pc and strted the installation process again with the same results

hard drive set to master

bios set to boot hard drive

i have two brand new real disks xp home and xp pro and i have tried both to no avail

i am completely baffled

About the only test I can think of at the moment is to reboot the XP CD & choose a repair install just to see what happens:

problem solved
i put the hard drive to ide1 and the dvd drive to ide 2 and it booted up perfectly for some reason it didnt like the hdd and dvdrom on the same ide cable

No those drives don't mix & match: especially when transfering such data. If you ever need to clone or setup drives they should be on seperate IDE channels. Glad you figured it out!
