Music Playback Slow/distorted
HELLO!
Please help smile.gif
The main problem is when I want to play music through I Tunes/Winamp. It plays fine at first but as soon as I load another application along side this such as gamespy etc my music becomes slow and distorted. The mouse pointer also if only in small amounts also becomes jerky when CPU usage is increased. My computer is also slow when booting.
I Use AVG virus checker, Ad-aware, spybot and microsoft antispyware all of which are clean.
The only recent changes have been A new DVD writer drive which has been installed correctly. The old drive died and I received a blue screen with error message. I only had the error msg once (and I cant remember what it said) Upon installing the new drive I have had no blue error messages.
Thank you for your time and patience reading this message.

Were you ever able to use these programs together?
You can check via: Start/Run/ dxdiag | Sound
Check Acceleration & other tests. Also check the tests under Music.
Also check the settings under WinAmp.
Do you have all Windows Updates?
Also try running Check Disk:
start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.

Hi Jephree.
Yes I was able to use programs together.. but it was slow going.
I ran all the tests and all were fine.
Winamp settings are correct.
I am using service pack 2 and have just installed all the updates availiable. but no change.
I have also ran chkdsk which has had no change to my system so far.
Would u advise re-installing XP? my freinds seem to think thats a good idea but it seems a little extreem to me.. especially without any troubleshooting.
Thanks again for your kind help. I DO epreciate it.

Do you have the same problem thru Windows Media Player?
Also as a test try playing thru:
Start/Run/ MPLAYER2.EXE
-
HI.. Media player/media player2 were playing music better than my ITunes program (i tunes is a much bigger file). And only stuttering when I first load program. Then it seems to sort itself out.
However when I attempt to load a game in my cd-rom drive. The music is MUCH worse and cannot get game to run. I even tryed removing both CD-rom drivesto see if any improvement but no change.
Computer is laboring for some reason. very slow in all areas really.

Do you run virus scans? AdAware etc.? Defrag? Cleanup?
Perhaps try check disk:
start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.
Or browse your Event Viewer for any possible clues:
Start/Run/ eventvwr
-
I have ad-aware and virus checkers.. all are showing clean.
I did however run event viewer.. And there is a repeating fault saying:
DMIO
ISK HARDDISK1 BLOCK 6160447 MOUNTPOINT G: UNCORRECTABLE WRITE ERRORS. The number "6160447" changes in every error msg (and there are quite a few!).
The drive is my secondary 160 gig hard drive I have noticed no problems with it.
I Unpluggged the drive and re-booted machine.. DOH its still very slow on boot up : ( My sound dosent seem to stutter quite so much although its still there at the beginning of loading programs. Cant really tell if there is overall system improvement on not
I'm a little confused what to do next Jephree.

Me again.. In "Application" there are also a number of these reports..
Event ID 1517 Source: userenv. (NT authority/system)
Please could you check what this problem is and maybe could this suggest why my computer is still struggling for memory even when G: hard drive is removed?
TY again for all yr kind help and interest in my problem.

Hi bear! I have run that program but have not noticed any improvement.
What are your opinions on the harddrive problem? I have disconnected it and still my computer is showing no improvement. To be honist I am not sure whether the hard drive error messages are relevent to my system anyway as I have noticed no problems with the drive. What do u think?
Also I am really at the end of my tether now with this and am considering re-installing XP, Will this help do u think?
Thanks again for your kind help.
