I'm using XP pro which I find to be very different to W98!!! When I close 'favourites' I get a window come up telling me that "Win. Exp. has encountered a problem and needs to close...." When I open up the internal info it refers to 'Kernel32.dll' plus a LOT of other stuff but the reference to 'K32.dll' is on the top line. When I hit 'send' the box disappears and the screen closes down for a second and then opens up again. All of this also happens when I close a file or zip on Desktop and in Favourites.

I've found a source of dll files and I downloaded the file for Kernel32.dll but no one seems to want to provide info as to how one should get it on to the computer.

Does anyone recognise any of the above ? I should very much appreciate help to get this sorted out.....Thanks. IbexData.

Hello again,.......I forgot to mention that other sites often 'tell' me that I should activate cookies and javascript but when I check them the settings are OK ! The URL shown below checks Win XP for those settings and it always shows my computer as being improperly set up in those departments.
I have working on my computer MS Firewall, Spyzooka, Webroot Spysweeper and AVG Free Edition. I have a strong feeling that this agglomeration of over-caution just might have a bearing on the problem - but, I tried closing them and they were reluctant to go !

Wow, this thread was last "updated" (by me) on June 19, 2005. It's slipped past me or I would have closed it off due to inactivity.

Firstly, I'd like to ascertain the owner of this thread. It was started by ibexdata, and along the way the user name cornock has surfaced. I have assumed I've been discussing this problem with one person, using two different user names. Is this the case? Two different Operating Systems have now been mentioned.

If there are two different people and O/S's it helps to know this.

    Hello Dan,

I'm sorry. I appear to have caused some confusion. That's often my state these days. Please put it down to old age ! Problems started when I couldn't find where to start a new post and in desperation dropped in at the bottom of the 2005 post.
If, when you log in, you see the same page set-up that I see [!] then you will see the second of my posts. This was an afterthought. I had previously posted [same day] under 'IbexData' and expressed the problem I've got with a Win.XP pro machine and which involved cookies and javascript. Can you spot that ?

    Hello,....IbexData again,

I've found the post which relates to mine dated 06-03-2007, 04:13 PM and which is found up at the top of this page and I've shown it below ! I hope this isn't an act deserving of 'excommunication' mm ? I couldn't think of owt else to do to bring it to your attention. I'm feeling somewhat desperate again because I've been struggling with this computer for weeks and I've found a
1st class opportunity which could be totally stymied by this fault. Next time I visit I'll bring with me the source of free downloadable 'dll' files.
    ---------------------
Please note that the reference to 'Opening a downloaded IP2IP prog' is NOT connected to this present problem but relates to my 2005 post and Win.98. The new problem is with 'Kernel32.dll' and XP below.

Please Note: this has nothing to do with - Opening a downloaded IP2IP prog. It's a Win.XP thing !

    IbexData here,

.....I said I'd drop in with the address url of the source of .dll files so, here it is. I hope it helps someone else.

That did get rather confusing didn't it?! I've moved this thread to the XP forum and have deleted all the old Windows 98-related stuff. Right, now, let's start again.

You have a problem with a corrupted Kernel32.dll file. This is one of the most important files in Windows XP and you'll probably find a lack of readiness to talk about replacing it because doing it wrong will stop your PC from starting up.

Recovering from a corrupted file that is as critical as Kernel32.dll is not always problem-free. Before trying it, back up any data that you cannot afford to lose.

I'd recommend running System File Checker and letting Windows try to replace the corrupted file itself. To do this, go to the Start Menu, click Run, type sfc /scannow and click the OK button. You might be prompted to insert your Windows XP CD if the installation source files cannot be found on the hard disk. Once System File Checker has completed, re-install / install Windows XP Service Pack 2. Give it a reboot after that and keep your fingers crossed!

Let us know how you get on

    Hello,

Thanks for the info. I've tried it several times and all that happens is that a rectangular box tries to appear for a split second and disappears.
    Nothing else happens.

I'd appreciate anything else you can think of to try, please.

    Regards......IbexData.

Try doing it from a Command Prompt. To do this, go to the Start Menu > Run. Type cmd and click OK. When the Command Prompt window opens, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

I don't know whether that will work or not so let us know if it helps
