DJNafey Try doing it from a Command Prompt. To do this, go to the Start Menu > Run. Type cmd and click OK. When the Command Prompt window opens, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

I carried this out as you said and I arrived at a message telling me - "Files for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache."
and, "Insert your Win XP Pro ser pack 2 CD now."

What is the DLL cache ? and because my computer is an ex Dell demo m/c from ITC there is no Win XP CD ! It's beginning to look to me as if it might be expensive after all.
