Hi, folks. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? My dvd drive is not being detected in the device manager. The bios is set to auto detect. The drive was detected by the "found new hardware" message but could not install the driver. I run Windows XP with SP2.

Ok...a few questions for you:
What brand is your DVD drive?
Is it just a DVD drive or does it burn/write as well?
When the found new hardware wizard appears, do you insert the CD that came with the drive?
Let me know.

Any error messages?
Is it seen under My Computer?
Is it set as Secondary Master or ???
Are the jumpers correct?
What is the make & model?
Is there a power lead to the graphics card?
Hi,Jeff. Unfortunately I don't know the brand;my brother installed it. It is a dvd rewritable. The "found new hardware" wizard tried to find the driver but couldn't complete the installation. I don't have a cd for this dvd rw. Hey, thanks for trying to help. It was working fine until I disconnected a cd rw that was attached to the dvd rw. The cd rw wasn't working.
LimJ,
I apologize, but, I don't know how much I can do if I don't know the brand and you don't have the installation CD. I would tell you to contact their customer support to ask for a replacement CD. Let me know if you find out the brand name.

Glad to Help
To Jephree: there are no error messages, the cable is connected to the graphics card. Don't know the brand, the jumper is set to master. Thanks Jephree.
What was the configuration on the ribbon?Originally Posted by limj

Or?
The brand of the dvd rw is from the Lite-On It Corp. Model: SOHW-812S. Manufactured date: Feb. 2004.
jephree: the dvd rw was the master and the cd rw the slave.
