Might be worth it to run this program to check your RAM.

    http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Let us know if you need help setting it up.
You will be creating a bootable floppy to test your RAM.
This will at least let us rule out your RAM as the basic problem.

i ran the program and it found no errors, i have noticed that i hardly ever have over 44mb of ram free (out of 256) would it be worth upgrading? could this be causing some problems? i have had none of those "low on system resorces" errors or anything like that

256 is a minimum for XP. 512 would be much better.
Whether or not this is your current problem I cannot say.
How much free space is on your hard drive?

    Check your page file:

Rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced

Performance/ Settings then Advanced then Virtual memory/ Change
& Set to System managed size

Also make sure that Memory usage is set to Programs

Also go to Visual Effects & set to Adjust for best performance.

thanks Jephree, i have done what you said, i have 4.45GB left on the C drive ant 40GB on the E drive. Would more memory increase the performance of my pc? and is it worth concidering? also, i have had another message with Real Player:

Having at least 512MB RAM with XP is a good idea although I cannot say that that will solve the present problem.

Here is a good upgrade tool:

What happens when you choose to Cancel "debug" those errors?

Open the Task Manager (right click an empty area of the Task Bar)
    Under the Performance tab:

What is your Page File Usage?

What is your availability of Physical Memory?

All my searching on those errors leads to RAM problems

Here is a deeper test if you want to try it:
    http://www.memtest86.com/

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with these errors.

    Also:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.
