XP does not recongize cable modem

    Here's the backstory:

Dell technician came out Sunday and replaced the motherboard on my 3-month old Dell Dimension 3000 (that is a story in itself, but I digress.) When the technician was finished, he said "You may need to reinstall your cable modem" and ran out the door.

Problem is, I can't find the device listed in Device Manager AND Windows XP does not recognize it as a new device.

    Any ideas?

    Hi JenniferH,
The fix is fairly easy. All you have to do is go to the cable modem manufacturers website( use a friends computer OR you might have an install disk for the modem),,, and re-install the "driver" for the modem.
Windows should then "recognize" you modem the next time you startup your computer. Just goto Add New hardware & then.. let windows automatically detect it. After that you should be all done.
    Hope this helps,

ps- the "tech" is a real *ss for leaving you hanging like that- don't hire him again.

    I'll try that, thanks!

I didn't hire this tech...he was sent out by Dell because my machine is still under warranty. I understand that the modem isn't a Dell product, but I think it was still pretty lame for him to run out like that.

    Hi again Jenifer,
"pretty lame" doesn't even start to describe it.

    Hope this helps
