    Question XP File Encryption Dysfunction

So I read a really good D-A-L article on Low Tech Computer Attacks, and I wanted to try out the File Encryption for XP, as suggested.

Anyway I have XP Home Edition, and I right clicked a folder for its properties and then went to the General Tab/Advanced button. Well I have the pick box for file encryption, but its grayed out and not selectable.

I tried to turn on the NTFS File Encryption for several different folders on different drive volumes to only get the same results. Sadly my mousing hand apparently doesn't have the ability to get my Encryption turned on.

Any thoughts on how to rectify this?

Is your system set up for NTFS?

To check Open My Computer: right click drive: click properties: file system?

ok ... sorry if this is bad news but I have seen it in other aspects of security as well, the encription option is only available in xp pro.

    xp google group

    one post suggests:

"can't in the home version, only in the professional
version and then only if you have the drive formated to
ntfs. there are many encription programs out there you
    can use."
