Help
Have recently done a couple of system restores. Before the restores i ran a programme for my mini disc player, sony sonicstage which worked fine. Now the programme will not work. When i try to access the programme it displays the following message( an installation support file could not be installed ). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programme many times, but no joy. I have also gone into the registry to remove this and reinstall, with no luck. Have also tried to remove the rest of the file from the add/remove programmes, this will not delete either, it repeats the same message as above installation file could not be installed. I have also been onto the main sony website and have tried to use their various patches that they offer incase sp2 is affecting the programme ( although it worked before ). Any help appreciated.

To try to completely uninstall:
Uninstall Programs Manually
Just because Windows XP has the Add/Remove Programs feature it doesn't mean your application will appear in the list. Furthermore, even if it does appear, it's no guarantee that the uninstall feature will work. When you run across one of these situations the items listed below will help in getting rid of the application. Be aware that these steps may not remove everything associated with the application and can impact other applications on the computer. Have a backup or restore point and use caution.
*
Find the directory for the application and delete all the files in the directory. Delete the directory.
*
Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*
Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*
To remove the application entry from Add/Remove Programs (if present) open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*
Some applications have Services attached to them. If this is the case, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es, locate and delete the service.
*
In Windows Explorer, navigate to the individual user settings and delete program references. Common places to check would be:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
If no entries were found in the previous step and the application launches automatically, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
and delete the entry.
Also run this registry cleaner:
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
Also run the following & delete all entries for this particular program:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

So things are OK now? With that program?

Everything just about works, but now songs are not transfering, it is telling me that it does not support the file format. Although it did before...

You can set & change these settings via Control Panel | Folder Options | File Types
Or perhaps enter the Program to set to default settings.
If you have multiple media players these settings often get scrambled.

Thanks for all the help, have got it completely working now. After doing the complete uninstall through the registry, I had to reinstall the sonic stage disc, select the option use the old music stored database ( instead of creating a new one) then uninstall the disc and then reinstall. This then converted the music back to the original format. Sounds confusing, but got there in the end...
