    sound scheme

I recently got a new computer. I deleted the wav files in Windows\Media and put in my own. I think there must have been a hidden file I shouldn't have deleted. When I go to the sound scheme in the control panel, I can test the wav files and they play fine, and all program sounds are fine, but the sound scheme won't work. Is there a file I deleted? (I did try setting it for the Windows Default sound scheme and that didn't do it.) Many thanks.

There was no need to delete those files; you could have just added your own & then edited from the control panel.

    These fixes may work:

Restore System Default Sounds (Line 6)

    Restore Media Files (Line 174)

If not was your XP pre-installed? If so do you have a recovery disk?
If so do you know how to run it in order to restore your computer to its' original state?
