System Restore Point + Drivers Backup

Hi, I was just wondering, is it possible to put a system restore point on a cd? And also, is it possible to backup your drivers onto a cd?

    In XP Home:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q302894

    In XP Pro:

    go to start/ all programs/ accessories/ system tools/ backup

Open the backup wizard. Backing up system state is essentially creating a restore point/ registry backup.
You can not do this directly to a CD but need to backup on your hard drive & then burn the backup to a CD.

You can also choose to backup everything on the computer & there is also an option to choose what to back up including drivers.

Drivers might need their install files as well in order to reinstall. In such cases you can find the driver package on-line & create a copy to CD.

Also there are many programs you can buy that do all this & much more.

I'm on XP Home, I read that article. It doesn't seem to actually say anything about putting a backup on a cd though. Thanks anyway for looking by the way.

That article just shows how to put the backup utility onto Home.

    In Pro it is default.

Once the wizard is put onto Home then you do as I said above.

You create whatever backup you want to your hard drive & then burn that backup file to CD.

Oh, sorry. I got a bit confused. Thanks alot for your help. One problem though, I don't have a disk for XP (I wasn't given one with my PC). I'll try and download the files I need to install it.

Ok, cheers, I've installed it now. So if I select the C drive (under My Computer) as what to backup, will that backup everything (documents, programs, drivers...)?

If you use the backup wizard from the opening screen you have the option to backup system state.

This is essentially a system restore point.

Or you can pick & choose what to backup.

You can backup the whole drive if you want to.

Just note that the XP CD burning wizard will not span CD's.
If you want to burn the whole drive to CD (it will require multiple CD's) you will need a third party burner that is capable of spanning CD's.

So, if I select 'Only back up the System State data,' what stuff does that create a backup of? (Sorry I'm a bit confused..)

Edit: Sorry I see what you mean now. Select 'System State' as well as the other things?

If I back up system state and C drive, will this be everything backed up?

System state backs up your registry. It is like creating a Restore Point. That's all.

You can also pick & choose whatever you want. You can Backup all of C: by choosing C:
    This will include system state.

You can backup Everything on the computer. (All drives & partitions).

From the Welcome window of the Backup Utility you can choose the Wizard (Advanced)
to guide you thru the process or you can go to the Backup page & choose C:

Once again: a backup of System State will be able to be copied to a single CD.
A backup of C: will require CD spanning software.
