Re: BSODs on New XP System

The last logs were memory corruption : file system corruption : norton :

Wide spread problems... I would try once more to do a clean install of XP & if the problems persist I would definitly use your warranty rights.

I've kept the person who I bought it from informed, it seems he bought it from a technical store down the road. He took the specs and dump info to them, and apparently i'm running 333 RAM on a 400 processor. Could that explain the problems i'm having?

    Just a quick search here:

    http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windo...hz-memory.html

Basic awnser that it would slow down your system but I see no indication of crashing it.

    From ASRock:

    Memory - Supports DDR400*/333/266
    - DIMM slots: 2
    - Max. capacity: 2GB

*Please download the User Manual and check out Page 5 for detailed DDR400 utilization description.

alrighty, thank you for your help, the system is looking fine so far, the RAM was sent back and replacement RAM has been recieved, (upgraded to 512M). I've been told this is DDR400, but the bios still reports 333.

Either way, i've got a current uptime of 23 hours, whereas before i think 11 was my maximum.Hopefully, problem solved.

Thank you very much for your time and effort, I will post back if I continue to have problems.

    Thank you

Going back to the manual I am a little uncertain about the distinction between:

Memory: 2 DDR DIMM slots: DDR1 and DDR2
    PC2100 (DDR266) / PC2700 (DDR333)
    for 2 DDR DIMM slots, Max. 2GB;

    & this:
    PC3200 (DDR400) for 1 DDR DIMM slot, Max. 1GB

    Also in your BIOS:
    DRAM Frequency
If set to [Auto], the motherboard will detect the inserted memory module(s) and
automatically assign appropriate frequency. You may select other value as
    operating frequency: [133MHz (DDR266)], [166MHz (DDR333)],
    [200MHz (DDR400)].

I would definitly verify your RAM type before attempting to adjust these settings.

    And also from the manual:
*Please download the User Manual and check out Page 5 for detailed DDR400 utilization description.

Re; the manual....... I ~think~ it's stating that if you're using one slot, make it DDR400 memory (up to a max 1 GB), and if you are using two slots, they can be populated with any of the mix up to the 2GB limit of the board.
