Generic host for win32 processes problem.

    I get this message,

generic host for win32 processes has failed blah blah blah... end now. The usual
error message, but when I actually do end this thing, my interent says its conected but
my browsers or online games wont function. Anybody got any idea what this is all about?

Here is a long thread with varying ideas:

    http://www.xpforum.co.uk/forum/archi..._0__index.html

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.

Did you look at the above link?

    Possible sources:

Norton/ Symantec (do you have any of their programs?)

HP printers (do you have one installed?)

Windows Updates (do you have them all? is automatic update ON?)

    --------------------------------

    Do you have SP2?

    Windows XP Service Pack 2

Do you have Automatic Updates ON?
If not go to START | All Programs | Windows Update
If you have SP2 it would be listed by Right clicking My Computer then click Properties. Under System it will show SP1 or SP2 or nothing.

What do you mean that your Norton does not work?
What Norton? AntiVirus? Security? What is not working?

Do you still get this error? "generic host for win32 processes has failed blah blah blah... "
If so can you take down the exact message.

Also can you ID this: Faulting application updaies.exe
go to START | SEARCH & type in updaies.exe

well If you know anything about norton maybe you can help. when i try to finalize my installation I get an Internet explorer message that says We cant run scripts on this page. I have all the updates now, I think that was the problem before, but Ill post again if the message comes up again.

also, updaies.exe doesnt exist, I think hjthis helped me get rid of that one. Thanks anyways.

What is the exact Norton product you are using?

Also if it is an IE error & not Norton go to Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced & then Restore Defaults.

Also Tools/ Internet Options/ Security & set to Medium.
