hope someone can help me. this has happened when i have been online and offline. my idle process speed is usually 98 and my waol is usually 00. then it sounds like my pc speeds up or is doing something, this is when my system idle process drops by half and my waol increases by the same amount. my pc stops responding, if i am online, i get kicked offline. can anyone tell me what to do?

Obviously a problem with AOL.

Did this just start happening? Any new software/ hardware? New AOL?

Perhaps:

Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with AOL & or this issue.

Also:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

Then:

1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

This is a possibility:

waol.exe is one of the main parts of AOL.
I have to put this into the spyware category because a CWS variant uses this process name.
It is most likely AOL but triple check to make sure that this is in fact AOL.

Startup Name: quicken
Process Name: waol.exe
Details: CoolWebSearch parasite variant

Please follow owen's Instructions and then post your log in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section (Not Here).

If this is not the issue then let us know & we can search further.
