after i rebooted it was fine..then i left the computer on for awhile and it started freezing after 2 seconds..and for some reason steam popped up trying to update.

rarely i got a memory reference error..couple weeks ago they started happening while playing counter strike..

also. i somehow created this disc image from using nero. i disabled it but sometimes it appears in "my computer" with my drives.

    Just to clarify:

steam.gcf (this is associated with the game Half Life?)

Were you playing that game when this error was seen? Do you remember the exact error message? Perhaps: Windows - Delayed Write Failed ?

    Can you clarify this statement:
also. i somehow created this disc image from using nero. i disabled it but sometimes it appears in "my computer" with my drives.
What disc image? steam.gcf? How does it appear in under My Computer?

The formal response to your error is:

Check for SCSI disk and controller settings If your system uses an SCSI adapter, check for updates to device drivers and adapter firmware. Try disabling advanced SCSI firmware options, such as sync negotiation for low-bandwidth devices (tape drives and CD-ROM drives). Verify that you are using cables that meet the SCSI adapter's requirements for termination and maximum cable length. Check SCSI ID settings and termination to ensure that they are correct for all devices. For more information about troubleshooting SCSI devices, see "Troubleshooting Startup" in this book. For more information about the SCSI standard, see the SCSI link on the Web Resources page at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/reskits/webresources.

Also did your computer ever run Check Disk after this crash?

    If not do the following:

    start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.

yes. steam is associated with HL:2. that error did not happen while i was playing a game. it happened when the steam program was up and i was looking at a server and a little pop up at the bottom write saying windows delay write failed and had that steam.gcf in that little pop up 2.

in my device manager i had an X by "NERO IMAGEDRIVE2 SCSI CdRom Device". i somehow created this with nero when trying to do an image thing.

im about to do that check disk.

    So are things OK now?

I add this just as it was my research on your thread:

This post is quite a coincidence as it also has Half Life & NERO IMAGEDRIVE2 SCSI CdRom Device.

    http://forums.livingwithstyle.com/ar...p/t-86719.html

Also seeing as the main error message points out SCSI Devices.

As I understand it the NERO IMAGEDRIVE2 SCSI CdRom Device is a Vertual Drive that was copied to your hard drive from a CD image (an ISO).

Can you find this on your hard drive & try to delete it?

Also can you confirm you are using SCSI Devices?

Also: You say: "i was looking at a server... etc. i somehow created this with nero trying to do an image thing."
Also: "it happened when i tried to copy an IP from steam."

Anyway this thing seems to be the root of these errors.

    i have a SCSI/RAID controller for a 120GB SATA Maxtor HDD.
I just un-installed that NERO image drive..but every once and awhile it comes back if my computer shuts down improperly/crashes

i just tried opening nero image drive and i get an error couldnt open the application (.exe)..not really concerned about that unless its a problem.

im going to put in a different motherboard..an ASUS. the one i have now isnt good for games..as i've found out. it shares video cards memory and i cant disable onboard graphics.

also i keep getting this memory reference error every once and awhile. when i played counter strike..(game part of half life kinda) i get it sometimes..and with another program.
