freezing pc!
Hi, please go easy as I am a complete novice. Everytime I try to play a game such as Tiger Woods Golf or Fifa 2004 my pc will allow me to play for about 5 mins and then either crashes and goes back to the desktop or freezes. When it crashes I get an error report saying that the error was caused by a device driver. I have been through what seems like 100's of threads on here and tried the
start>run>eventvwr.msc. it said,
Applications; source: ( )
event id: 0
description: the description for event id (0) in source cannot be found.
System; source: system error
event id:1003
description: error code 10000050 parameter 1 fec 85735
parameter 2. 06000000
parameter 3. 806ee77a
parameter 4. 00000000.
I have had the pc checked by the local whizz who updated the drivers, and installed all appropriate updates and he rekons that all is ok. Oh no.
I have just run dxdiag as you have suggested and everything is ok.
This problem is not now and again but everytime I try to play games.
Please if you can help, go easy on me and make instructions idiotproof!!

Go back to dxdiag
What is your version?
Also under display what is your device & what is your driver?
-
Hi Jephree, thanks for your help. It says the version is DirectX 9.0c. The Device is All in Wonder 9800 series and the driver is ati2dvag.dll. I think this is right.

Did this computer ever play these games? Is this a new problem?
This is the latest driver for All In Wonder
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...asp?deptID=894
It wants SP2 first. Do you have SP2?
If you choose to download then:
Boot the computer to Safe Mode options (F8 after BIOS) & choose:
"Enable VGA Mode".
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
Find your graphics card driver package & uninstall.
While in Control Panel, go to System, Hardware, Device Manager.
Expand (Click +) besides Display Adapter,
Right Click your graphics card, Choose Properties, Drivers, uninstall.
Reboot the Machine - It will re-detect your graphics card.
Then re-install the drivers.

The computer has never played these games. I bought it from Carrera (well done me!!) who have now gone bust. It has SP2. Do I need to download or go onto the link. Sorry to be a pain in the xxxx.

Then CATALYST 5.4 Windows XP - Driver Download
Follow instructions there. Choose to save the download to your desktop.
Then follow these steps:

Find your graphics card driver package & uninstall.
While in Control Panel, go to System, Hardware, Device Manager.

Reboot the Machine - It will re-detect your graphics card.
Then run the downloaded drivers.

Hi jephree, sorry it's taken so long but only got dial up down ere in darkest Cornwall so downloading is bit of a problem! Did everything you asked but when I rebooted the machine and ran the drivers I got "X The application failed to initialize properly (cxc0000135). Click ok to terminate the application."
I have tried the game but only played for a minute or so and it then froze. I have also noticed that my pc seems to have a mind of it's own and go back to the previous page I looked at without any instruction from me. Could this be connected or is this just another problem? Thanks for your help.
-
Just to clarify:
You get the 0135 error from the CATALYST or after the drivers install?
I'm getting 'The application failed to initialize properly (OXC0000135). Click OK to terminate the application.' when I try to launch the app.
Please make sure that the Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 is installed on your computer.
