I just re-installed WinXP Pro on my desktop, but my LAN setup disappeared. I am not on a network. I need it to connect my ADSL. How do I install it?
Can somebody help, please?
Start | Connect to | Show all Connections
or
Start | Control Panel | Network Connections
The problem is that it's not in either of these places. Could it be something I neglected to do during the installation?Originally Posted by jephree

I can find no precedent for this.
If you right click My Network Places | Properties -I suppose it is not there either?
Look under Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to start/run/ devmgmt.msc
What is listed under: Network Adapters?
Do you have a 3 Com EtherLink?
If you have a functioning EtherLink device then I would suspect XP.
You can try a fix via start | run | sfc /scannow
As described here: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
You will need to insert your XP CD. Hold the Shift key till the CD icon stops flashing in order to keep the CD from actually loading.
Also I don't see how it would be a direct issue but are you using an XP SP2 disk?

Not to side step the issue because you should have this LAN option; but seeing as you are not on a network are you sure you cannot create a DSL connection in the Dial-up catagory?
I just mention this as that is how mine is setup. I have the "LAN or High Speed Internet" connection disabled with my DSL under "Dial-up".
Hey jephree -
Thanks for the help. I did a little exploring while waiting for your response. It turned out I needed to install the driver for the LAN card. Problem solved.
Much appreciation. You are always a big help.
