XPShut down failure
I have just clean installed Win XP Pro on a 40G Formated disk.
Device manager showsSound card and Video card not installed, I'm awaiting the drivers for the3se twOn shutdown, system turns off until final phase and then hangs with the "shutting doen Windows" screen displayed.
The system can only then be turned off with the main switch or a reset.
Any ideas please Does this mean a complete reinstall of XP?
Internet not yet installed so no MS updtes yet performed.

As to XP Shutdown failure:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm
Can you clarify:
1. Have you completely installed XP? Gone thru the rebooting?
2. And then tried to install your card drivers?
Or are you saying the Installation will not reboot?
3. What do you mean by: "I'm awaiting the drivers for the3se twOn shutdown"
4. You say: "Internet not yet installed " & yet that is part of installing XP.

Please excuse the sloppy typing!!
Xp installed and re booted.
Driver disks not available.
Internet connection not yet established - Not at home site - therefore drivers not yet downloaded
On shutdown, system goes thro shutting down until final phase when it then hangs with the "shutting down Windows" screen displayed and mouse pointer and keyboard frozen.
Shut off can then only be effected by holdown of the power switch on the front of the case - reset also functions.

I would suggest having your drivers downloaded to floppies prior to install.
More importantly I would have SP2 on a disk or create a slipstreamed XP SP2 disk to install. http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?act...showarticle=49
The above shutdown issue as mentioned in the above link is quite often associated with pre SP1 XP.

Installation of the both drivers solved the problem.
SP2 being installed.
Thanks again
