Windows XP Pro - Gearsec problems

I installed Service Pack 2 (SP2) to Windows XP Pro and now get the following message on bootup:-

'gearsec has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience'

    The 3 attached files give the details - Gearsec1, Gearsec2, Gearsec3.

Can you advise what to do to solve the problem?

Gearsec is part of DVD X Copy and possibly part of iTunes. If you have either of those installed you may want to check the publisher's web site for any SP2 issues and/or updated versions of the software. Do you have either of these programs installed?

were you running an anti virus program or firewall while you installed sp2?

i would suggest uninstalling sp2 from add remove programs and re installing

it is very important to turn off both anti virus and firewall during installation of sp2

Will 'gearsec.exe' need replacing or will it be OK after reinstalling SP2

i would think that uninstalling will restore it to its' previous condition.

i suspect that something in mcafee corrupted it.

here is a quick google search if you want to browse others with gearsec issues

    gearsec

I've got Spybot, Spywareblaster and Spyguard anti Spyware software - should this be disabled as well as McAfee? What else should be disabled?
