computor running in backround at start up

When I start up my computor it seems like there is a race going on in the backround like a lot of things are running. I just got the computer back from the repair shop and noticed it takes a while to start up.How can I correct this? I am not to familiar with msconfig and don't want to mess anything up.

    Download this little app:

    http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr...autoruns.shtml

Open it & then from File choose Save As & then post the .txt back here.

There is not all that much there. Was expecting worse

All of the following are unneccessary to startup. I would not delete them but just uncheck them to see if it expidites your startup.

+ CARPService carpserv Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher c:\windows\system32\carpserv.exe
(Associated with Zoltrix modems - enables the internal modem speaker, allowing you to listen to the dial-up sounds for example)

+ Microsoft Works Update Detection Microsoft® Works Update Detection (Not verified) Microsoft® Corporation c:\program files\microsoft works\wkdetect.exe

+ TkBellExe RealNetworks Scheduler (Not verified) RealNetworks, Inc. c:\program files\common files\real\update_ob\realsched.exe

    + Compaq_RBA RBA (Not verified) NeoPlanet c:\program files\compaq\compaq advisor\bin\compaq-rba.exe

+ Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk Adobe Acrobat SpeedLauncher (Not verified) Adobe Systems Incorporated c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 7.0\reader\reader_sl.exe

    + Microsoft Office.lnk Microsoft Office 2000 component (Not verified) Microsoft Corporation c:\program files\microsoft office\office\osa9.exe

    + E6TaskPanel File not found: C:\Program Files\EarthLink TotalAccess\TaskPanl.exe

+ MSMSGS Windows Messenger Microsoft Windows XP Publisher c:\program files\messenger\msmsgs.exe
(unless you want MSN Messenger to start at startup)

Also go back into Autoruns | View | check all Show boxes & post the new file.
This will show all services starting among other things.

I also notice that you are not running a firewall (or do you have Norton Internet Security in there?) or are you using the XP SP2 wall?
