i have a packard bell and i went to boot it up and it won;t start the message that comes up is is (system error) insufficient system resources exist to complete the API

Do you get power lights on the PC?
Do you get any beeps ?

as this just happened or has it been playing up a while?

apso333---thankyou for replying the computer as lights and it go,s to boot then stops half way through and the message comes up,
it was telling me that it was short of memory and i was just in the prosess of getting everything out, but now it won,t let me even start it up

so you've opened up the case and looked inside? did you take care with ESD?

How old is the PC?

I havn,t opened anything i just pushed the button to switch it on I don,t know how old it is sorry i bought it from a friend

What operating system have you got on it ?

it,s windows xp professional

and nothing happens when you turn on the PC ? has the fuse in the power lead gone?

the computer starts up as though there is nothing wrong then just as its completing the setup the message comes up and if i click ok it shuts down and starts all over again till it gets to the message again

can you boot into safe mode? press f8 just before windows boots frome ide
