What you need to do is go under Administrative Tools in your control panel.
Left click on services. Right click DNS client on the right side. Click
stop. Then right click again and go under properties and disable the DNS
client.
Under network connections in the control panel go to your local area network
and under properties click on the ICP/TC protocol your and properties. You
should have clicked Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server
address automatically. Also under the local area network properties make
sure your check box for file and printer sharing is off unless you truly
want to share your computer info with everyone).
This will keep you from having to work around with DNS numbers. When I did
this XP kept refinding my regular modem but was never able to find the
necessary files for it. What I had to do is go under the phone and modem
settings and delete my modem and reboot. It allows windows XP to correctly
identify your modem and reload it.
I hope all of this makes sense to you. My internet connection works
wonderfully now. I got this information about the DNS server from local area
network from ATTBI themselves after 9 frustrating hours of being on the
phone at different times because I could not get anything else to fix the
problem.
