    Unexpected restarts problem

Hello, can you help me please?
For a few weeks the PC has rebooted randomly while I'm online. The Event ID is always the same 7000 which refers to Service Manager Control unable to start Panansonic Digital Palmreader (which I don't have) or USB Flatbed Scanner.
I uninstalled the scanner but the problem was still the same. After a few days I reinstalled but had same problem.
I have unticked the Automatic Restart button but PC still mostly restarts & there is no BsoD
The restarts often happen on using the barUP on the scroll bar but noe when using the UP arrow. They can also happen when I use the mouse to click on something
The other problem is sometimes after rebooting the Icons on the RHS of the taskbar (next to the clock) disappear. I thought it might be the graphics driver so uninstalled all and reinstalled updated version. This brought back all the icons but then sometimes they go again. On first start of the day, they all seem to be there
I have updated versions of AVG and Spybot and have just run an online virus scan at "housecall" but nothing found.
Please can you help?? I just don't know what to do next. BTW I am not very knowledgeable so could you explain any help very simply please!!

    Thanks so much
    Jo

    Welcome to D-A-L

There is not much to say about that error other than that service was unstartable.
    Event ID: 7000

Did you ever have this software/ hardware installed: "Panansonic Digital Palmreader"?

What is the exact make & model of that USB Flatbed Scanner?

As to the icon issue: If you right click the Start button | Properties | Task Bar
There is an option to Hide Inactive Icons
Do you have this clicked? If so you will see an < arrow next to the clock to expand the icon zone.

    3 things to try:

    1. start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors

    2. start > run > sfc /scannow
    http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

    3. start > search > .dmp
If you find any .dmp files then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document post it back to this thread.

Thank you, jephree, for your very quick reply
    1. I did a mistype - it should read "Panasonic Digital Palmcorder" and No I have never owned one

    2. The Scanner is an Artec Ultima 2000e+ 48u

    3. Yes I have already customized the Hide Inactive Icons & I have been checking it everytime the Icons disappear. The odd thing is that when the Icons have gone out of the Taskbar, the folders in the Taskbar Properties have all reverted to the standard Windows folder appearance but when my Icons are back, the folders in Properties change to those specific to the programs ie as different coloured Icons.

    4. Thank you for all those other suggestions. I will try them now and see what happens

    Thanks again
    Jo

What I didn't say about the Icons was that when they disappear, the .exe file will not open either eg my scanner has a settings prog called ScanPanel separate from the application. When the ScanPanel Icon has disappeared, if I go into C:\ScanPanel and doubleclick on the .exe file, nothing happens
It's as if the PC only loads part of it.
I have taken to making a Restore Point when everything is OK so I can go back!

Re your suggestions, chkdsk did not throw up any errors but it checks the disc when it crashes anyway.

I found the latest dump called User.dmp and lots of mini dumps.

I will download the debugging tools tonight as file will take some time as I haven't got Broadband

Sorry to keep on, but just had a crash so thought this might be of use:-

I was online with Word Document open. As I tried to minimize doc, PC crashed.

When PC was checking disc it showed error in
" C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository\FS\Index.map" It said it would truncate
    Also
"C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository\FS\Objects.ma p is crosslinked on allocation unit 262935"

    Is this any help?

    Regards
    Jo

Getting a .dmp text would be the most expediant way to handle this.

Let us know if you have any problem with that process.

Unfortunatly, this isnt a microsoft application. Youll need to contact the vendor of Rotxe.DLL to get further assistance as to why this application is malfunctioning.

    Thank you, joehobart

I have tracked that down to Creative Technology and am checking help forums
But as this is a very new glitch (last few days Microsoft message comes up that PlayCentre has encountered a problem and needs to close BUT I haven't got it OPEN!) surely this could not be the base of the problems of crashing over last mothe or so?

Would it solve it if I reinstalled the last Update to Playcentre do you think?

    Thanks for your help
    Jo
