please can anyone help me. I have just reinstalled xp pro. and once loading my settings I am getting an error message of: cannot find file c:windows\bxxs5.dll

Is this causing me any problems?

Removing files from your Registry is not really recommended unless of course person like Bear give you proper procedure, because if you ACCIDENTALLY removed some files from the registry your computer may not be able to function properly or in worst cases can not run at all, so be cautious!!!

However, what you should have done first is to run the free online virus/malware scanner. Trend Micro, Symantec, Panda, and McAfee does provide this service. Then go back to your registry to check if those bxxx5 files still exist. If still exist then follow that Remove Autorun Reference.

There is a removal tool at the link I submitted and I would advise them to try that first before attempting any registry edits. Your point is a good one and I agree 100 %, the registry ain't a place to mess around unless you are experienced in technical issues. Here is the link to the removal tool
