What kind of alarm?
An audible sound?
An error message?
What else happens?
Did this just start?
Were things ok before?
Any new hardware/ software?

Just to clarify: Everything works fine but you have a 5min. beep everytime you start your computer?
Does it start as soon as you push the power button?
Does your computer go thru the BIOS POST & start Windows as this beep continues?
Can you use windows as this beep continues?
Is this beep coming from the speakers or from the computer case?
What is the exact make & model of the computer?
What is the exact make & model of the hard drive?
Did you upgrade to XP or did the old drive have XP?
Was XP installed on this motherboard?
Or was it pre-existing on the hard drive?
The noise comes from the computer case and I have had a new hard drive fitted . windows xp was not pre existing on the new hard drive as i had win xp installed later
