    Keyboard will not respond

    Hello,

My keyboard will not respond AFTER windows loads and the login screen appears. I have tried different keyboard inputs (USB/PS2) having no luck. The mouse will operate until I type a key after which it freezes up. I have tried the repair function to no avail. The keyboard does work as I can access my BIOS and type there. Any recommendations on how to get the keyboard going again? Thanks.

    Welcome to D-A-L

Is this a new problem? Did it work previously?

Will it work in Safe Mode?

Also check the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to Start | Run and type in: devmgmt.msc for any "!" by the Keyboard.

There is also a Troubleshooter via: Control Panel | Keyboard

This is a brand new problem. It worked fine previously. I can not check the device mananger or anything of the like because I cannot access the system. The keyboard does not work even in safe mode. There is no way for me to login without keys.

So even trying the Recovery Console or Repair Install from the CD you are unable to use the keyboard?

I have tried to reinstall windows using the repair function. That didn't fix it. I have the ability to use the recovery console, but I do not know 'how' to use it or what to files to replace or reload. I have installed windows on another hard drive in the computer and can now access the old windows files. I have replaced the Win 32 folder from the new OS to the old OS to no avail. Really, I just want access to my personal files, and then I can format the drive and start over, however, the files were made private and I cannot access them from the new OS.

Here is a good guide to the Recovery Console:

As to Private files: How were they made private?

    Perhaps this will help:

Or were they encrypted in some way?
